How to get clean in dirty water…

When I was a “baby christian” (Alistair words) I remember someone telling me about being baptized in a dirty river and thinking “ewwwww.”  I was baptized in the pool at NHC.  But then again…so many other people went in before and after me (because NHC’s got it like that…people are saved and baptized in amazing numbers) that that water could not really be “clean” either, now could it?

But now that I’ve got the blinders off I know that it doesn’t matter what water you get baptized in because…you are far more dirtier than the water itself when you go in.  But no matter how dirty the water may be and how dirty you are going in…you will be so clean when you are raised back out…baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit!!!!

When the bible mentions people getting baptized, they were not being baptized in fresh well and tap water.  They were being baptized in muddy rivers….and coming out cleaner than they had ever been in their entire lives.  Because they were washed new in Christ as we all are when we make the life changing decision to take the plunge!

Someone close to me recently told me they have been thinking long and hard and feel ready to be baptized.  Man…do you know how it feels when someone tells you that?  It’s amazing.  It’s a feeling you don’t understand until you embrace being a christian and have a desire to see others give their lives over to God and get baptized into a new life.

Baptism at NHC is coming soon…and I’m excited.  It’s going to be amazing.  So…where are you at?  Are you, as Pastor Dave says, stopped at the door?  Is baptism the only thing you haven’t committed to yet?  Well what are you waiting for?

Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

Why get baptized?  Well let’s see….

Ephesians 4: 4-6 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Mark 16: 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
